Teaching Principal

I am lucky enough to be the Tumuaki at Duvauchelle School. I love teaching our Year 0-3 tamariki in the Tui Classroom five mornings and three afternoons a week, and then "sitting in the swivelling chair" for the other two afternoons.

I have been involved in teaching and schools for just over twenty years, with a leadership role for the past 14 of those. I feel very privileged to have been able to teach in different types of schools, from Decile 1 through to Decile 10 and Independent/Private Schools in both urban and rural settings across New Zealand.

The children at Duvauchelle School truly are awesome. They make my daily life so enjoyable and interesting. Every child gets one shot at each year of schooling so it is imperative that we, as teachers, make sure that each and every year of a child's schooling is the best one ever!

My greatest achievement as a teacher and a principal would be if everyone who visited us at Duvauchelle School said "Wow! I wish my primary school had been like this." Imagine how future generations would view primary school if their experiences had been positive and respectful.
